I owe my musical knowledge to “free” music.
I’ve been lucky enough to know some great record collectors.
Although I could never be bound by a collection, I appreciated every one.
I listened whenever I got a chance, and learned plenty about music.
Besides the obvious (misprints, availability, and those attributes that add value to collectables), MUSIC was at the heart of these collections. Each collector specialized in a certain kind of music, and their collections contained MUSIC I wanted to hear more of. I soaked this music up, and eventually made music my profession. I’m old enough to have benefitted from other peoples’ quarters put in jukeboxes that we all could hear!
A special bunch of music-lovers brought these collections into the digital world.
These analog-to-digital converters should be also recognized and encouraged.
So these days, it’s a collection of links to songs this music-lover finds.
I have created sites which link to music paid for by other people.
So the artists get paid, and you get to listen for free.
